Ashley Co, Chicot Co., Desha Co, Drew Co, Jefferson Co., Lawrence Co., Lincoln Co, Lonoke Co, Pulaski Co, Saline Co. ASHLEY CHESTER From 1836-1845, Chester received land in what became later these counties. This land was on both North and South sides of the Arkansas River. He is also listed as assignee of 40 people. These were perhaps members of the SE Indian Nations that had removed to Indian Territory, of which Arkansas was part for a while. Though in a few of the counties there were one or two smaller land owners, Chester Ashley vitually owned all. His total land holdings were 55,295 acres or a little over 86 square miles of SE Arkansas.
