I am your flag.
I am the flag of the United States of America.
I am called Old Glory.
I am called the Star Spangled Banner.
I am the rockets red glare;
the bombs bursting in air.
I am the imminence of patriotism.
I am the trenches in France, Belgium,
Anzio, Normandy, Omaha Beach,
Guadalcanal and Korea.
I am the jungle of Vietnam
and the sands of Desert Storm
and the streets of Bosnia.
I am "One nation under God."
I am the names of those who never came back
to keep this republic free.
When you salute me,
you are actually saluting them.
I am the symbol of America.
The home of the proud, the brave and the free
Coos County's sons and daughters marched off to war during World War l, World War ll, Korea and Viet Nam. Some gave their lives that we may continue to be a free nation. May we always remember the sacrifices these men and women made and pray they did not die in vain. It is up to us, the living and descendents of these soldiers, to make sure their deaths are remembered, and the reason for their deaths. Some made it home and died years later, but still carried the scars of war.
These former soldiers are at their final rest in the cemeteries of Coos County.
